Note: the documentation above is for the older DKs with the larger debugger. If you have a newer board (3.x.x) then you should use the connections from https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/ug_nrf52832_dk/page/UG/dk/ext_programming_support_P19.html. Unfortunately the nRF52840 DK documentation hasn't been updated but the setup is the same as on the nRF52832 DK.
