Another quick question Priya, could you give us what version of the nRF Connect for VS Code extension you are using? You can find that in the extension panel in VSC.

it's alright.

So I found the issue, the nordic files /opt/nordic/ncs/toolchains/directory existed but was owned by root. So I just changed the permission and now its working, Thank you for the questions which helped me.

Sorry, but without a reply from you I seem to have forgotten a bit about this case.

The issue still behaves the same way? Did the temporary workaround I mentioned in my previous response work for you?

I got some other questions here for you from the relevant R&D team:

do you have any antivirus or similar software that might mess with file access?
are you willing to test with a custom build that might provide more detailed logs about the issue?
as this is a file access issue, we are interested how is it possible that /opt/nordic/ncs/toolchains/toolchains.json not accessible, whether it exists, has wrong permissions. Everything under /opt/nordic/ should be under the user's permissions. If that differs we'd like to know how the system was installed.

Hi, is there any update on the issue. I still cannot use the nrf connect in my MAC.

We're trying to hunt down where the issue is coming from.

However, as a temporary workaround you can manually create the expected directory where the SDKs and the toolchains should be installed:

sudo install -d -g staff -m 3775 /opt/nordic/ncs
mkdir /opt/nordic/ncs/toolchains

Hehe great, that is what I was trying to ask.

Could you try pressing Help > Toggle Developer Tools, and see if there are any errors popping up?

Hi Elfving,

I have the version 1.97.0 of visual studio code installed. Other extensions like prettier, live server are working fine, its only with the nrf I am facing issues. I installed command line tools.

P.S: all the extensions are are latest version

That is odd. I have seen issues related to VSC not being completely uninstalled before, as there are some additional settings in the user folder that remains. Though let's not start off with that route yet.

Do you have any other issues with VSC? Do other extensions work? Could you check what version of VSC has been installed by going to the extension in the "extensions" tab in VSC? Do you have nrfutil and command line tools installed? (I don't think it's necessary to get the extension up and running, but it is worth a shot)

Sorry for the late reply I was on vacation. I have installed the latest version of it. I tried uninstalling and re-installing VS code as well. that did not fix anything

Hi,

Could you check that you have the entire "nRF Connect for VS Code extension pack" installed? There are multiple available which might be confusing.

And could you check what version of it you use, or make sure that you've updated to the latest version?
