Hello Ebi,

Yes, it is indeed our chip on that board. But it also contains an Arduino bootloader that runs before it starts the application. I don't have access to that bootloader's source code, and I don't have access to an arduino nano 33 with that bootloader for testing how it behaves either. For all I know, the application needs to be signed for the bootloader to accept it. It may be that the tool you are using to flash does this signing, and that the application starts as intended, and later crashes (which would cause the USB peripheral to fail, so you would no longer see it). It may also be that the bootloader rejects the application image, and then shuts down, which may also be why it disappears.

If you have an external debugger/programmer, it is possible to erase the bootloader (irreversible step, unless you find the .hex file for the bootloader elsewhere, or if you can read it out and store it first). After that, you can use the debugger for programming the board directly, without the bootloader.

But if you want to use that bootloader to program your device, I am afraid I don't know how it is working.

I understood that you haven't work with the board , i raise this complaint in NRF community because this nano 33 BLE sense rev2 board has nRF52840 soc in it, i thought i will get something from the community thats why. Only thing is i want to see the serial after uploading zephyr application in this board, i tried all the possible way to implement that i couldnt find the exact source, i mentioned one page that talks about this board like solved and unsolved issues in it kindly take that for reference and let me know what i can do to make it done.

I am sorry, I am not familiar with this HW, so I don't know how it is supposed to work. It is not clear to me whether it is the UART or the USB peripheral that is connected to your serial port. I think you need to reach out to the producers of your board to ask how you are supposed to use it outside the arduino IDE.

Sry if i am giving you too much trouble since you don't have experience with that board,

I am able to open when i double press the reset button for setting the mode to boot mode, so thats how I am able to flash using bossac. once it's done I am not able to see the serial...

Don't worry about the warnings/errors in the "problems" tab. Does it say anything in the terminal tab when you build the sample?

I have never touched this board before, so I don't know how to use it. Are you able to open a terminal on the USB port before it disappears?

i renamed it to arduino_nano_33_ble and I don't know why i am getting this kind of warnings after few minutes of successfully built my application:

And i notice that after uploading when i check the port it show /dev/ttyACM0 for while, if i check it again it gone..

What version of NCS are you using?

Remember that you have the <board_name>.overlay, where board_name is either arduino_nano_33_ble_sense or arduino_nano_33_ble, depending on what board you are building for.

If you are using NCS 1.9.1, can you please try a later version? 2.6.3 should be a good choice.

Yes i tried the application you sent in the zip file. and i built by choosing the board Arduino nano 33 BLE , previously i tried that arduino_nano_33_ble sense in the board target.

when building the application i am getting this warning does it cause any issue?:

Do we need to configure the device pid and device vid? if yes i tried that also but same result ..

What board are you building for? arduino_nano_33_ble_sense? Have you tried ardunio_nano_33_ble (without "sense")? According to the zephyr documentation, that is what you should use:

If so, remember to copy the boards\arduino_nano_33_ble_sense.overlay and call it arduino_nano_33_ble.overlay.

Also, did you use the application that I sent you? Where it has a while loop in the main() function? Or the default hello_world where it returns after printing once?

If you program it using an external debugger, you will probably erase the bootloader that is pre-programmed (the one that is used by the bossac tool). If you do so, you will no longer be able to program it using the arduino IDE.

I don't understand how this Arduino ide programs works after uploading it i can see the serial but cant debug beacuse it doesnt comes with debugger and in zephyr environment do we need to add customize board for making it wokr.. or should we need to by the external debugger or something for serial to see the serial output in zephyr environment?

Hello Ebi,

I don't have access to the same HW that you are testing, but based on the schematics that I found here, it looks like there is no UART->USB device on this board. This is something we have on our nRF52840 DKs. The debugger reads all UART messages, and translates this to USB, which is why you can see UART messages on the computer (computers typically don't have UART peripherals).

The reason I mentioned the nRF52840 dongle in the first place, is that this doesn't have a debugger, so when you build e.g. the hello world sample for our dongle, nrf52840dongle_nrf52840, it has devicetree settings that will forward the console directly to the nRF's own USB peripheral.

This doesn't seem to be the case for the arduino nano 33 ble sense board files. I tried adjusting the behavior with the attached application:

devzone.nordicsemi.com/.../1526.hello_5F00_world.zip

Note the boards\arduino_nano_33_ble_sense.overlay file, where I just copied parts of the nrf52840dongle_nrf52840.dts file. This way it will adapt this behavior without changing the board file in your SDK directly.

Also, note that I enabled the USB_CDC in the prj.conf.

Again, I don't have the arduino board to test on, but I tried to build it for the nrf52840dongle_nrf52840 as well, and flashed it, and I can see the "hello world" messages via the USB CDC in a terminal.

Give it a go, and let me know if it doesn't work.

I have two questions.

1. Is there anything that i should particularly change for my nano 33 board like usb pid like that? or just need to add the configuration and overlay file in the hello world built project for nano BLE33?

2. I saw one more example which is console , that one also has the similar conf and overlay file, my doupt in that is inside the chosen @cdc_acm_uart0 is there rght,

when i check the reference its entering into the node that we created &zephyr_udc0, but after built the application which is the sample console i check the dts of the application , this is for nano_33_ble_sense board

I saw your private message, where you asked why I mentioned the nRF52840 Dongle.

Sorry if I was not specific.

The reason I mentioned the nRF52840 dongle board files (nrf52840dongle_nrf52840), is that this board, like the board that you mention, use the nRF's USB peripheral, instead of the typical UART -> Debugger -> computer, that is used in the normal DevKits.

So the llpm sample that I mentioned in my previous reply shows how you can set up the dongle, using the nrf52840dongle_nrf52840.conf and .overlay file to redirect the console to the USB.

What you want to do is to create similar files, just named according to the board that you build for, to redirect your console to the USB peripheral.
