The way Direction finding works is by scanning through the antennas during a transmission to check the phase differences between each. Without an antenna array you won't get any phase change so won't work. The sample code in the SDK seems to detect the antenna array is not present as it seems you don't get any data out if you run the code without the array connected, haven't checked whyt that's the case as you can't do anything with such a setup anyway.
