I am moving from espressif IDF vscode to nRF Connect vscode. I have been reading the docs and the academy. I am only frustrated and confused. I see in many places that command tools are depreciated and that the tools now are called Util.
For the time being, nrfutil is only needed for the nRF54 series.

Also for the time being, for nRF54 you must manually install the
device
module for nrfutil, through the command
nrfutil install device
.

For the other series, nRF Command Line Tools should be enough (but it doesn't hurt to install nrfutil, and nrfutil will be needed for all families at some point in the future.)

I am sorry to hear of your frustrations. While nRF Command Line Tools are in the process of being phased out, the VS Code extension still uses nRF Command Line Tools for most of the existing device families. This means, for now, you do need nRF Command Line Tools.

This is likely to change for the next nRF Connect SDK release, but for now the older tools are needed, yes.
