Thanks for confirming. Attached is a modified version of the project from nRF Connect SDK v2.9.1 which should work on the dongle as well.

The sample is not configured for the nRF52840 Dongle. Is that the dongle you are using?

Update - actually it started working(connects successfully and accepts "bt security 2") on DK. Still not able to make it working on dongle.

Ok, I found nRF52840 DK and build shell with default configs. It responds more or less correctly, but later on it is not able to connect to the device:

You should see multiple log messages while the Bluetooth stack is initializing after issuing the bt init command. Do you have an nRF52840 DK you can test this on to see if it gives you the same issue? If not, can you say a bit more about your setup? For example, do you use the nRF USB or UART USB serial bridge on your board?

Thanks - ok, I found it (hidden dir, so no visible by default on MacOS) and was able to build. Still some issue - shell starts but does not respond to "bt init"(I'm able to list all "bt" commands but looks not working):

The UI doesn't allow you to select projects under 'test', but you can click 'Open an existing application' and manually select to the project in the Zephyr repository.

Ok, I installed VSC extension and NCS v2.9.1 on Mac. How to build Bluetooth Shell? I can't create new application based on Bluetooth Shell - it is not visible under "Samples".

Hmmm, so the "Getting started" with "latest" is not working as expected? It's a bit confusing. I just followed the official instructions, chosed "latest" and it does not work.

What's the proper steps to setup for latest version of Bluetooth Shell?

nRF Connect SDK v2.9.1 uses the "v3.7.99-ncs2-1" tag of our Zephyr fork. When installing the nRF Connect SDK you should use one of the release tags (v2.9.1 is the latest stable release at time of writing)

I assumed you were using nRF Connect SDK. Have you tried with this SDK as well?

This contains compilers and other build tools, but not the Zephyr code.

I'm setting up on MacOS just with below instructions and the "Version" toggle set to" NRF Connect SDK latest"

I'm ending up with directories:
- zephyrproject
- zephyr-sdk-0.17.0

Not sure which version used before(also "latest"), but as far as I remember it was zephyr-sdk-0.16.0

Hello,

Authentication should not be required if both sides only require level 2 security. Which version of the SDK are you currently using and which version were you using earlier when it worked? Also, what security level do you get when pairing with phone instead?

I was not able to reproduce this using SDK v2.9.1. I connected to the peripheral_uart example.
