I just tried the JLink with Eclipse and GNU ARM Eclipse Jlink plugin, it seems to work. If I break the execution, at next run it will go to fault handler, but likely it's normal (softdevice doesn't like to be stopped).

I'm not that familiar with open ocd, but are you using the same chip to bridge the UART to USB? Have you tried disabling semihosting if enabled and see if it makes any difference?

Yes it works. Maybe during reset the two debbugers are... fighting?

I tried debugging with GDB over J-link, and was not able to reproduce. I wonder if it could be related to the debug setup somehow. Does UART work if you power-cycle the board without the debugger attached?
