Last version supporting Ubuntu 20.04 for nRF Connect for Desktop is 5.2.0 and corresponding app versions at the moment per April 28th.
Last version supporting Ubuntu 20.04 for VSC is 2025.1.x.

From my understanding there are no immediate plans to support Ubuntu 20.04 moving forward, since it looks like it's reaching end of life next month: https://endoflife.date/ubuntu

Can you try to downgrade nrfutil by calling: "nrfutil install device=2.8.5 --force" and see if that solve your issue for now? I am not sure of the support for Ubuntu 20.04 moving forward, but I am looking into it and will update when I learn more.
