I am glad to hear that you can build now!

The "topdir" and "toolchain.path" settings were removed in the latest version of the extension. If you used these to set the install directory, it is possible that the removal caused it to revert to using C:\ncs instead, which is the default location. You can find the release notes here: https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/nrf-connect-vscode/page/release_notes/connect/2025.4.106.html.

Best regards,
Marte

RE: Update of SDK using Visual Studio Code didn't go well.

yeah, ok... I can repoint the system to the original place...and just for the heck of it...moved the files from the C:\ncs location to the user space location. Build works and it appears that it is pulling the tool chain from the new location.
Thats good.

I suppose I am curious, why did it default back to C:\ncs... Maybe I should just assume I clicked on something too quickly and just accidently it chose the old directory.

Thanks for your time Marte, Good to see your avatar is still working the help desk.

RE: Update of SDK using Visual Studio Code didn't go well.

Hi,

You can configure where the SDK is installed in the extension settings. Go to settings in VS Code > Extensions > nRF Connect or search for "toolchain manager" inside the settings to find it:
