Each nRF52840 board can act as a mesh node to send and receive messages. You can use the Bluetooth Mesh: Light switch sample as a starting point which demonstrates client/server models for controlling and reporting state (like button presses) over the mesh network. You do not need a separate proxy device. Any nRF52840 board can be configured to act as a Proxy node, which allows a tablet or smartphone to interact with the mesh network via GATT. The proxy node relays messages between the mesh and the tablet. See Devices and Bluetooth Mesh roles. You can use the nRF Mesh app (available for iOS and Android) to provision, configure, and control your mesh nodes. The app can also be used to interact with the mesh via a proxy node, making it ideal for your use case with a tablet.
