Hello,

I think it is worth investigating more closely about the difference in the OpenThread details. Which of the networks are the one which is lead by the Echo Dot? In the logs I can see that network information is updated for the network named OpenThread, but no indication that the device is commissioned into the network (which makes sense in a way). Since the issue seems to be on the Thread level, please collect sniffer traces of the traffic. A guide can be found here if you are not familiar with our tools for sniffing 802.15.4 traffic.

I have started to study your logs. So far I have not found any good leads, but I do note that the OpenThread details are different between the two attempts. These are found at around line 231 in the log(s). It could be a good place to start.

Thanks for your reply. I'll share two logs next week. We now suspect that Matter certification and Amazon FFS may have caused the problem. Once these two clearances are done, I'll update you on whether they led to the network key pop-up issue.

I have a few tips to gather some information which can get us closer to a solution.

Please make sure that the hub supports the Matter version you are using.
Gather device logs from both cases: the scenario where a network key prompt appears and the scenario where the commissioning is successful.

The Matter v1.4 core specification ch. 11.17.15 Acting as an NTP Server states that NTP Server is suited for nodes with always-on power source (and a good enough accuracy). ICDs does not fall into the "always-on power" category. So your nRF54L15 is not suited for the server as far as I can tell. Please see the time syncronization cluster specification for details (ch. 11.17).

It is not related to UAT. When attempting to set up the network connection on HomePod, there is no need to enter the network key.

Scanning to join the network refers to using a mobile phone to scan the QR code for Matter network setup.
The mobile phone will prompt you to enter the Thread network key.

Can you explain in detail what you mean with the "networked via a scan"?

Which device is prompting for a Thread Network Key?

Generally, the Thread Network Key is shared with joining devices during commissioning, and this is happening without user intervention. If your Thread Commissioner/Matter hub does not have a way of displaying the Thread Network Key, you won't be able to obtain it unless a device on the network supports displaying the Thread Network Key.

For nRF54L15, our Matter light switch sample has configured button 2 as the User Active Mode trigger (UAT). This is typically used for ICD when immediate responses are needed. You can see the short description in the user interface section of the sample documentation, which contains links to general documentation. The relevant part of the Matter Specification is Ch. 9.16.

This can be fixed by rebooting the hub. On previous reports of this, the explanation was that the nRF-board does not retain the CASE session keys on reset while the hub still has the same CASE session keys.
