&lt;p&gt;I have some idea what you can do:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;power-cycling and fully erasing the external flash.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;You can try to erase external memory erase by this command&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;pre class="ui-code" data-mode="text"&gt;nrfutil device program --firmware zephyr.hex --options ext_mem_erase_mode=ERASE_ALL --serial-number 1050065027&lt;/pre&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Based on the error messages you&amp;#39;re seeing, there appears to be an issue with the IO mode configuration when trying to use the higher frequency with your MX25R64 flash.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Does the MX25R64 flash chip actually supports 32 MHz operation in the IO mode you&amp;#39;ve configured. Some flash chips have different maximum frequencies for different IO modes. You can check this.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
