After having the same issue appear on a new hardware design with a different module, I came back to this issue. I am fairly confident that the root cause was actually a lack on control over the coexistence pins. I am assuming that something about the authentication request packet was changing the input state on those pins, causing the authentication packet to never be transmitted, hence no connection.

I found the following old Devzone response that says the pins must be driven low if not used, but this does not appear anywhere I can see in the datasheet. In my opinion that would be very useful information to include.

Yes, the failed logs only have a few probe req/resp and nothing after that...

Is that all you see on the sniffer? Can you also get sniffer logs in 5G band for both working and non-working cases?

I have captured traces of the working and failing devices using Wireshark, attached in the zip file.

There is certainly much less activity on the failing device, and despite the serial logs saying the association packet is sent, it doesn't appear on the trace.
