The U.FL won't work for sure. The SWF cable will work. I don't have any recommendations for external antennas, I never use any.

It looks like I am using the UFL to SMA connector rather than an SWF one.

My set up is basically just the dk connected to this and antenna on the other side.

What are some antennas that you would recommend? Also I should buy an SWF connector cable, such as the Murata MXHS83QE3000?

And you have used an SWF cable/antenna? The connector on the board is NOT an uFL connector.....

Can you show a picture of your setup? An external antenna won't necessarily be better than the antenna on the DK. Antenna gain depends on a lot of factors.
