We are looking into the new Thingy 91 X and were wondering if it will be able to run the nRF91 Pizza Demo .
I understand the demo was originally created for the nRF9160 DK. Are there any known compatibility issues or specific modifications

RE: Will the Thingy 91 X be able to run the nRF91 Pizza Demo?

Hello,

We just bought one Thingy 91 X. Will ping nordic sales later.

I recommend creating a sales ticket here with more details about your project and requirements. The sales team will help you select the most suitable product. If you are already in touch with a sales representative, you can also connect with them directly. This is a better approach than using DevZone for choosing the right Nordic product.

Kind regards,
Abhijith

RE: Will the Thingy 91 X be able to run the nRF91 Pizza Demo?

Hello Abhijith,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

So, would you recommend going directly with the Thingy:91x for new projects?

We are developing a POC that could potentially be used for a project in 2026. Maybe by that time, there will be full support for the new chip.

Sorry, I should have mentioned it as nRF Connect SDK instead of NCS.

I think you can refer to the nRF Cloud REST device message sample inside the SDK. You can also find the same sample here.

Thank you for your feedback.

I understand that the Pizza web application part of the demo should work, as it communicates directly with nRF Cloud. However, I am now looking for the source code for the firmware that needs to be installed on the Thingy:91.

Is this firmware source code publicly available? If so, could you please point me to it?

Best Regards,

As you mentioned, this repository is supported on the nRF9160 and is based on an old NCS version. Support for the nRF Thingy91x is not official. However, you can try it on your side, but the first step should be to port that version of the SDK to a newer one and then test it with the Thingy91x.
