&lt;p&gt;The VBAT pin should indeed be powered, and VBAT must be powered with a VDD supply voltage between 2.9-4.5V.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Important to note is the Supply sequencing requirements in the product specification, that describes VBAT as one of the required supplies that must be supplied in order to power up.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;• Supply VBAT/BUCKVBAT/BUCKVBATS/AFEVBAT &lt;br /&gt;• Wait ≥ 6 ms &lt;br /&gt;• Assert BUCKEN &lt;br /&gt;• Wait ≥ 1 ms &lt;br /&gt;• Supply IOVDD&lt;/p&gt;
