The data sheet only specifies the maximum currents (600mA / 3..3V).

RE: nRF9160 power requirements

The power supply must therefore be designed for the maximum expected current.

RE: nRF9160 power requirements

Hi Michael

If the supply voltage ever drops below the minimum voltage required for safe operations (2.80V) a brown-out reset will occur. It will put the system in a reset state and it will start back up when the voltage is safe again.

The transmitter will not be adjusted with variations in VDD voltage.

Best regards,

What happens if the power supply is to weak and voltage drops?

RE: nRF9160 power requirements

It is possible to infer the length of these peak currents from the Online Power Profiler: Online Power Profiler for LTE

As is mentioned in the modem current consumption spec, https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/ps_nrf9160/page/_tmp/alta.nRF9160/autodita/APPLICATION.CURRENT/parameters.id_current_modem.html the max peak current is ~450mA in a TX event with very poor VSWR.

Worst case is around ~3 seconds for a TX event.

In reality, I would expect a few 10s of ms per event maximum and ~250mA peak current.
