I an designing a module with either wifi connectivity or cellular network connectivity with host MCU. I am planning to evaluate nRF9160 for cellular network and nRF7002-ek for wifi network. Can you please suggest a common development kit from Nordic

RE: Common development kit for connecting nRF9160 and nRF7002-ek

Hi,

Yes your understanding is correct. The nRF7002 is a companion IC so it needs another MCU to be used as a host.

You are also correct in the understanding that you don't need any host for nRF9151, it is a SiP with all you nee and you can see what it contains here.

I will also recommend that you contact your regional sales manager as they can help you with this.

Regards

I didn't get you when you say using nRF9151DK and nRF7002ek to be used as a shield. Do you mean to say I can mount nRF7002EK on nRF9151DK (Arduino connector) and communicate with nRF7002EK using nRF9151 as host MCU?

Also, am I correct at my understanding that nRF9151 has inbuild MCU and I can use it independently without any other host MCU?

Regards,

First of all I would not recommend the nRF9160, I would rather suggest that you look at nRF9151(the nRF9151 is a newer device then the 9160) as the nRF9160 is not recommended for new applications.
There is no devkit from Nordic that has both devices on a board, but what you can do is to use a nRF9151DK and a nRF7002EK that you can use as a shield to the nRF9151. We also have. a thingy91x which is a prototyping board. I would personally recommend starting with a DK.
