I would suggest you to take a look at the <a href="https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/ncs-1.5.2/page/nrf/applications/serial_lte_modem/doc/GPS_AT_commands.html">GPS AT commands docs</a>. The GPS is controlled by the #XGPS command and the read command only checks if GPS is running.
