Hi,

The partition manager enabled dynamic partition where partitions would be added and adjusted automatically when you enabled features via Kconfig such as settings storage and mcuboot, but once you locked down the layout with a pm_static.yml file, it became static like with devicetree partitions. And the key thing with regards to DFU support is that the memory layout remains static across updates, not whether you were using the PM or DT to manage layout.

Unfortunately, we did not manage to complete the transition to using static DT partitions for the nrf91 series in SDK v3.3.0. As I understand it, there were some last minute changes required to TF-M that prevented this. Currently we have converted the at_client sample (on main) to use DT partitions: https://github.com/nrfconnect/sdk-nrf/commit/b0104621b1d3edb212a60125ca19a543b886c090

So if you use nRF91 and SDK v3.3.0 or older, it will fine to continue with PM for now.

Let me add:

Will such a change cause then a break in FOTA?

And how will existing nRF9160 devices be affected?
