Yes I tried different USB sources with no change, finally I tried a different DK board, and everything seems to be working well now, no issues. I can only assume something is causing the 5V rail to collapse on the original DK board causing all the isssues.

Do you have a logic analyzer to check all SPI lines? Your overall setup seems to be fine.

Also based this observation, it seems to me some sort of inrush current issue causing the reset. Is that possible to use more powerful USB port for DK ? Monitoring the supply voltages while connecting EB2 would give good insight to this issue.
