@Francesca: Please have a look here and read about debugging with nRF5 project.

You will most likely find the error code when you init the advertising data , and that the size of the advertising data is probably exceeded the limit if you add the full name (depends on the full name size).

I have put everything in C:\Keil_v5\ARM\ARMCC\include and now it compiles and the beacon is advertisng, thank you :) but if i change "advdata.name_type = BLE_ADVDATA_NO_NAME;" in "advdata.name_type = BLE_ADVDATA_FULL_NAME;" the led in no more purple and it doesn't advertise...can you tell me why?

Hmm, Seems that you may have quite old Keil version. Could you try to update to the latest version ? I updated the answer with all the files should be put into Include folder.

I couldn't find exactly the same directory, so I try to put the core here: C:\Keil_v5\ARM\Pack\ARM\CMSIS\4.2.0\CMSIS\Include but it wasn't working, so i tried to put it here: C:\Keil_v5\ARM\ARMCC\include and now keil gives me this kind of error (repeated 12 times): C:\Keil_v5\ARM\ARMCC\Bin..\include\core_cm0.h(148): error: #5: cannot open source input file "core_cmInstr.h": No such file or directory

Oh sorry Francesca, all from the beginning I was thinking you were using GCC compiler instead of KEIL. Just because you mentioned gcc in your first comment.

The core_cm0.h you used was for gcc and maybe not match with the one for KEIL. I updated the answer with the core_cm0.h for KEIL. You can put it to C:\Keil\ARM\CMSIS\Include

Note that after you programmed the kit, you may need to take off the battery and put it back on (power reset).

I compile with keil the project that is inside the arm folder, how should i use the makefile that is in the armgcc folder?

Hi Francesca,

It's pretty strange, because in the makefile in nRF51822 Beacon v1.1.1\Source Code\nrf51_beacon\ble_app_beacon\pca20006\s110\armgcc there is an include path to: INC_PATHS += -I../../../../../components/toolchain/gcc The file should be included.

Did you use the makefile provided in the .zip I provided? And you should call make with "all" pararameter ("make all")

If I compile your project I find again the same error that I told you at the beginning "cannot open source input file core_cm0.h, no such file or directory" and in the code the error is at this line "#include "softdevice_handler.h""

The hex file was compiled from the source I provide. Could be smth wrong with your toolchain or the library in your SDK folder. I have updated the Answer with the .zip file to my whole project. Note that the makefile.windows has updated to match with the gcc version on my PC.

I would suggest you to start development here.

Have you flashed the softdevive ? Could you try to flash both the softdevice and the application hex that I updated in the Answer ?

Do you have a nRF5 DK Development Kit beside the beacon kit ? If you do, please start your development with the DK and the nRF5 SDK.

Thank you for your help :) Now I can compile it, but it seems that it doesn't advertise! I put the project inside the folder that I have download from the tutorial, otherwise it couldn't find some headers. There's somenthing I am missing? My chip has revision 1.0.0 Sorry but it is my first application :)

Hi Francesca,

I just tested here and found that the smart beacon firmware package nRF51822-BK-FW v1.1.1 doesn't support gcc out of the box. There is a makefile in the example project for gcc but the file was really broken.

I did some fixes and tested with PCA20006 v1.2 board and it worked here. You can find the project in the attachment.

If you want to use nRF5 SDK you can try with nRF5 v11 with the example at \examples\ble_peripheral\ble_app_beacon\pca20006 . But you need to check and make sure you have revision 3 chip. You can find the revision by reading the laser marking on top of the chip and compare with the compatibility matrix.

I'm using nrf51822 beacon kit (nrf6930, rev 1.0.0) and I have tried to test it with this tutorial (devzone.nordicsemi.com/.../) and when i tried to compile the file i see this error "cannot open source input file core_cm0.h, no such file or directory" so i put this header in sourcecode/components/toolchain (before it was in sourcecode/components/toolchain/gcc) and now it compiles but i can't see the led blinking (instead if i use the pre compiled hex the led blinks)

Besides, can you tell me if i can use other sdk versions as 11.0.0 the test the beacon?
