I upgraded to the most recent firmware available on the download page and then started nrfgo studio. This is what i get:

New firmware: J-Link OB-SAM3U128-V2-NordicSemi compiled Jul 24 2017 17:30:12 Current firmware: J-Link OB-SAM3U128-V2-NordicSemi compiled Mar 2 2017 12:22:13 Starting bootloader... Waiting for emulator to detach... OK after 132ms. Waiting for emulator to attach... Timeout. ERROR: Communication timeout. Emulator did not re-enumerate. ERROR: Firmware update failed.

When i press ok nrfgostudio crashes. So this is very much still a bug.

If you cannot make automatic update work for almost a year, perhaps try to make it possible to not automatically update? just a thought, edit: sorry about this, had a bad day. It worked when I removed the battery from the board.

thanks for the update, glad to hear that it works now. Will create a bug report internally so this can be investigated further.

Yeah. I tried that, and it seemed to accept the image, but I still got the error the next time I ran nrfjprog. What finally worked was running dpinst_x64 (from Segger) to update my USB driver.

@calvin, have you tried to update the FW manually:

put the interface mcu in DFU mode by pressing the IF BOOT button while power-cycling the kit
Drag&drop attached fw image into BOOTLOADER disk
Reboot

I'm having the same problem:

I tried all of the above solutions (including JLinkConfig (version 6.12f)), but nothing works. JLinkConfig gave me the same error.

Help?

I just manually downgraded to 160315 to get the same result:

Connecting to J-Link via USB...O.K.
Firmware: J-Link OB-SAM3U128-V2-NordicSemi compiled Mar 15 2016 18:03:17

Then I opened J-Link Configurator (JLinkConfig.exe), selected the emulator and clicked 'Update firmware of selected emulators' and now I have:

Connecting to J-Link via USB...O.K.
Firmware: J-Link OB-SAM3U128-V2-NordicSemi compiled Nov 14 2016 16:58:29

(comes with J-Link 6.10n)

I'm aware that it is not the latest version, but it should this version should support 'automatic' update. Please check the current Jlink FW version by connecting to the board with jlink commander (jlink.exe)

Is there a newer J-LINK-OB file? I just installed the Segger v6.10a package and constantly get prompted to update the firmware. I tried programming the J-Link-OB with all the available files (150616, 150828, 160212, and 160315). Any attempts to perform the update fail.

160308 is loaded correctly ... but it's not the latest version . The latest is 160315 , so nRFgo continue to try auto-update and fail.

JLink_V512e tried but same result . Tried also a WIN8.1 and WIN10 PC , unistalling and reistalling all nRFgo-JLink sw but ... same results. Is not easier to make available J-Link OB-SAM3U128-V2-NordicSemi compiled Mar 15 2016 as for the other versions ? Tha manual procedure update seems to work always !

I tried the same with a couple of old preview kits here ( PCA10036 v.1.0.0 and PCA10040 v.0.9), but both updated to the march build. Suppose you can try to update the FW through "..\SEGGER\JLink_V512e\JLinkConfig.exe". Can you try the same on a different computer?

Already loaded the latest Jlink Drivers but nothing changed . My Keil ver.5.12 do not attempt to update FW when download code to flash memory . In nRFgo I always obtain : New firmware: J-Link OB-SAM3U128-V2-NordicSemi compiled Mar 15 2016 18:03:17 Current firmware: J-Link OB-SAM3U128-V2-NordicSemi compiled Feb 12 2016 12:15:53 Starting bootloader... It looks like we do not have the latest version of the jlink FW on our webpage. I guess it is assumed to be covered by the 'auto' update functionality. I would suggest to download and install the latest Jlink Drivers, then attempt to update the FW by programming something through Keil and see if you get the same result.

I was able to get a hold of the latest binary: J-Link OB-SAM3U128-V2-NordicSemi 160315.bin

Update 9/10-17:

Latest FW for Segger J-link v.6.12e: J-Link OB-SAM3U128-V2-NordicSemi 160914.bin
