Bluetooth low energy (formerly Bluetooth Smart)

Shouldn't that be the other way round; ie " Bluetooth Smart (formerly Bluetooth low energy) " ?

RE: Typo in Press Release?

According to the guidelines "Bluetooth low energy technology" is correct and "Bluetooth version 5" would be correct. They don't explicitly state "Bluetooth 5" would be correct, but they don't say it would not be correct, so it will probably be OK when the time comes. Bluetooth 5.0 would be incorrect, since the ".x" is being dropped going forward. BLE is not correct (shortening Bluetooth to "B" is prohibited and I think always has been) and Bluetooth Smart once was correct and is no longer correct. For specification numbering (i.e., host controller) you can shorten Low Energy to LE a bit like you can with BR/EDR controllers, presumably because spec sheet/tables are so crammed for space to begin with. Good times.

RE: Typo in Press Release?

Found an explicit reference in the FAQ here: www.bluetooth.com/.../brand-best-practices-guidelines

the technology branded as ‘Bluetooth Smart’ will be more simply characterized as “Bluetooth low energy technology.”

www.bluetooth.com/.../bluetooth-brand-faq.ashx

Which seems far more sensible anyhow; "Bluetooth Smart" was always pretty meaningless - "low energy" was far more clear & descriptive.

Common sense prevails at last?

RE: Typo in Press Release?

So actually, from that, it should just be "Bluetooth" - without either the "Smart" or the "low energy" ?

RE: Typo in Press Release?

Actually Bluetooth SIG are phasing out the Bluetooth Smart branding. This from the brand guidelines.

Please note that the Bluetooth SIG
updated and modified the blue color
used for the Bluetooth trademarks. In
addition, the Bluetooth SIG will phase
out all use of the Bluetooth Smart and
Bluetooth Smart Ready marks in 2016.
As such, we ask that all licensees
make commercially reasonable efforts
to (1) update their use of the
Bluetooth trademarks to reflect the
modified color blue, and (2) cease use
of the Bluetooth Smart and Bluetooth
Smart Ready marks moving forward and
revert to using the Bluetooth word
mark, figure mark and/or combination
mark, as appropriate.
