 From the below post, looks like Max possible output is 8MHz since peripheral clock is limited to 16MHz.

&lt;p&gt;You can use the clock pin from the &lt;a href="http://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/com.nordic.infocenter.nrf52832.ps.v1.0/i2s.html?cp=2_2_0_42#concept_z2v_24y_vr"&gt;I2S module&lt;/a&gt; to output 16 MHz onto a pin, this is out of specification and can/will impact your signal. As the specification states, the I2S module has been verified up to 4 MHz output.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;For the best result, use a separate crystal for the external device.&lt;/p&gt;
