arne you may want to install BlueZ 5.41 as recent patch fixed some issues on Chromium for Linux.

Regarding Linux and Web Bluetooth API please take a look at this site. There are a few steps that have to be taken to get it up and running:

Linux: Requires Kernel 3.19+ and BlueZ 5.40+ installed. Read How to get Chrome Web Bluetooth working on Linux. Note that Bluetooth daemon needs to run with experimental interfaces: sudo /usr/sbin/bluetoothd -E Make sure ControllerMode = dual in /etc/bluetooth/main.conf. See BlueZ 5.40 bug

This was exactly what I was looking for, and it worked perfectly on my android device! It did however not work on my laptop (debian/chrome). My current theory is that there is a bug somewhere in my SW stack on my laptop.

We have just launched a Blinky web app example on GitHub which demonstrates the same functionality as the Android app. This seems to be exactly what you are asking for.
