For anyone encountering this error using the arduino IDE, I had a similar issue and changing the programmer to J-link apparently solved the it. I initially had the ST-Link V2 programer set up

I also encounter looks alike issue on nRF52832, $ nrfjprog --version nrfjprog version: 9.0.0 JLinkARM.dll version: 6.10i erase success and program fail in Jlink_ARM.dll Can anyone help?

Ran into the same issue. Have you figured it out ?

$ nrfjprog --version
nrfjprog version: 9.0.0
JLinkARM.dll version: 6.10c

I am using the nrf52 (PCA10040, V0.9.0, 2015.41)

Which nrfjprog and JLink driver version are you using (nrfjprog -v)? Try updating to the latest version (9.0.0 and 5.12g), download here (nRF5x toolset).
