I am trying to program a nrf51822 module but it is not recognized by the development kit.
These are the pins that I am using:

I can not see the module with NRFGo on Windows or on linux with Jlink console.
Any idea?

I experienced something like this with a custom board some while ago. The problem was another diode being between vdd on custom board which led to an additional drop of 0.15V which in course was then 2.7 on the SoC... Try to short an additional supply of 3V to VTG, disconnect P20 pin 2.
This approach solved it for me.
Well then you might skip connecting VCC to SH_VTG and instead just short PINs 2 and 3 (VIO and SH_VTG). Also could you use other target board - e.g. another nRF5x DK - and make your SEGGER J-Link OB work with it? Otherwise it can be any kind of HW/SW problem in your set-up (the only help I can provide is ton of pictures and videos how it works for me on several target boards + traces from nrfjprog or SEGGER J-Flash Lite but on WINDOWS;)

For me it works even when I play with second nRF5x DK board (if I bridge P20 SWD PINs to standard 10-pin SEGGER connector then I can flash nRF5x chip on the other DK without problems) so it might indicate problems with this one particular custom board.
previous answers are correct that you need to short VCC to VTG.

Additionally you need a proper GND connection to your circuit, as GND_DETECT (pin 8 on P20) is an "input" that triggers use of external module (might be an oversimplification). I suggest you short one GND from connector P1 to your module, and short another GND to GND_DETECT.

I had a similiar problem. The cause was not enough current being supplied over USB (<=2.9V on DK, measured at VTG).

Try the following:
Short circuit VDD over VTG to device.

This enabled me to programm all devices without any trouble. From my experience you need to have at least 2.95V to programm the NRF.

Not sure if I understood correctly your problem but I'm using nRF52 and nRF51 DK boards to flash dozens of custom boards daily and my working set-up through external header P20 is:

P20 pin 4 for SWDIO

P20 pin 5 for SWDCLK

P20 pin 7 for SWD RESET (optional - many designs don't use this and even if they do you can skip it)

Powering: P20 pin 1 for 3V3

Ground: any GND pin on the DK (not sure if you can use pin 8 from P20, I use pins explicitly saying GND)

Now key trick: you need to tell to SEGGER J-Link OB (on-board) that it should use P20 neither P19 nor internal connection to nRF5x chip. I do it through simple connection of P20 pins 2 and 3. Again it might work also with other shorts but this is what you are missing I believe.

What is the output of JLinkExe (J-Link Commander in windows)?
If this successfully finds a target and a valid voltage, you shall also be able to contact the device using nrfjprog from command line:

nrfjprog --recover // do this just
in-case nrfjprog --program
nrfjprog --pinreset

The "blinky" demo is a good application for a visual indication to see if you are programming the nRF51-DK or your external board. The "program external board" feature is a bit tricky, as the voltage must be equal on the external board and the nRF51-DK, for it to work properly.

edit ; my first answer was incorrect. sorry.

Cheers,
Håkon

RE: nrf51822 Minew's Module is not recognized by NRF51DK

Hi awneil

"Minew" told us that the module can be programmable through the Nordic's Development kit. In fact, there is a tutorial using a similar module from the same company.

Do they actually intend that this connection should be used for programming/debugging?
(the fact that the pin is labelled just "DO" rather than "DIO" is suspicious...)
