&lt;p&gt;You do not need any additional hardware to perform DFU over the air and the internal memory is sufficient. You can have a look at the &lt;a href="https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/tutorials/9/"&gt;setting up DFU on the nRF5 DK&lt;/a&gt; to get a better feel for DFU.&lt;/p&gt;
