Have you tried running the gazell example for host and device "as-is" on two nRF52-DK from the SDKv14.2?

It's been a year, SDK 14.1.0 appears to have nrf52 gzll libraries, but nrf_gzll_init() hangs. If I stop the CPU I see it's stuck in the TIMER2_IRQHandler.

Has Gazell support been tested with the nrf52?

Actually, there should be an experimental release in SDK 12. Which is just around the corner.

The hardware is capable, it is just not yet available.

In the index of nrf52832, The introduction says gazel can be supported. Please refer to my answer with screenshot.

Gazell doesn't support nRF52, so the answer is no atm.

SDK 12.0.0 is now out, it adds support for Gazell for the nRF52.

And yes, then a nRF51 should be able to communiate with a nRF52, using Gazell. nRF52 does not support 250 kbps data rate, so that is the exception.
