Based on the discussion in the comments, the problem is found: the memory space that can be used by FDS is limited by FDS_VIRTUAL_PAGES and FDS_VIRTUAL_PAGE_SIZE (in fds_config.h). In other words, we can not assume that data can be stored into all of the free space in the flash.

@gortok: thanks for the suggestion, but in my case the problem persists even if I erase & reload the SoftDevice and the application.

If you're sure you're deleting old records, you'll need to be sure to run fds_gc(); it's not run automatically. Generally I write -> run_gc -> run any pending softdevice actions after it's complete.

I am using SDK 11. I mainly referred to the official documentation and this example, but my code is part of a larger project and has changed a lot from the references. So this question is sort of a general one.

Can someone help me re-tag "fd" to "fds"? I don't see why it is truncated.
