I see. Then the only suggestion I have is to try with J-Link version 6.40, as that is what nrfjprog 9.8.1 has been tested with.

I believe the versions match:

:~$ nrfjprog -v
nrfjprog version: 9.8.1
JLinkARM.dll version: 6.42f

and

$ JLinkExe 
SEGGER J-Link Commander V6.42f (Compiled Feb 26 2019 17:01:38)
DLL version V6.42f, compiled Feb 26 2019 17:01:29

Perhaps you have a version mismatch between nrfjprog and which version of the J-Link software are you using? Remember to update the symlink as mentioned by the creator of this thread.

While running

nrfjprog --memwr 0x10001304 --val 0xFFFFFFFD

my linux machine returns

Segmentation fault (core dumped)

and at the same time the dmesg has produced the error:

[ 3941.782725] nrfjprog[5256]: segfault at fffffffffffffff9 ip 00007f4045dce04f sp 00007ffe3b537bb0 error 5 in libjlinkarm_unknown_nrfjprogdll.so.9.8.1[7f4045dc5000+15000]

I have the same problem, but re-installing the Segger JLink didn't solve anything...

I figured out what changed. I installed JLink_Linux_V601e_x86_64.deb yesterday that installed new versions of the JLink software in /opt/Segger and changed the symlink to point to this new version. doh
