I bought the nrf51822 chip itself, and created my own board. Now, can I still download the nRF51 SDK as per nAN-29?
I am stucked with the download page asking for product key - I am more than happy to send you photos of the chip and the board

RE: Download nRF51 SDK without Eval/Dev Kit

Hi Richard

You need the SDK! Please register a support case in our support portal so we can provide you the SDK. Log in on www.nordicsemi.com and press the "Technical Support Team" link at the bottom of the webpage.

RE: Download nRF51 SDK without Eval/Dev Kit

Indeed I have my own PCB as well as a JLink that's donated by a friend.

In this case, do I really need the SDK? Is there any alternatives for really tight and low shoestring budget development?

RE: Download nRF51 SDK without Eval/Dev Kit

No I believe you have to buy an Eval or Dev kit to gain access to the SDK and Soft Device files...

If you buy the Development kit (as well as the 2 modules that connect to the $400 nrfGo motherboard) you get the Segger JLink-Lite which you'll need to programming the chip.

The Segger JLink on the Eval PCB only lets you program/debug the on-board processor.

If you've done your own PCB then I'd suggest the Dev kit to get the JLink-Lite. If you've got another JLink already then the Eval kit provides convenient access to all the GPIO pins.

HTH
