@Awneil: If the chip on your board is rev 2 then it won't work. It have to be rev3 to work with nRFConnect firmware.

Assuming that the firmware is available...

(I gather that nRF-Connect firmware is not available for older nRF51 Dongles; eg, PCA10000?)

Any nRF5 Dongle and DK should work with both MCP and nRFConnect. But the firmware are different so you need to reflash if you switch between.

I wasn't thinking of using them both simultaneously - just having them both installed, and using one at a time as required.

Are there no dongles/DKs that are compatible with both MCP and nRF-Connect ?

I don't see any problem using both of them. But you need 2 dongles/DK kits.
