Is there any real use case that needs to use Security mode 2?

I have checked this further and unfortunately, LE Security Mode 2 is not supported by our softdevice. I will update my initial answer to reflect this.

I received an errorcode = 6 ("NOT_SUPPORTED") when I set "BLE_GAP_CONN_SEC_MODE_SET_SIGNED_NO_MITM(&sec_mode);" inside the function gap_params_init() for a ble_peripheral template. Is it any other configuration that is needed to support the mode? Security mode 1 works fine and I'm using SDK 12.1

Encryption will instead be provided in the application level. (Experimental)

Hi,

Security Mode 2 is not supported by the s132 softdevice. You can see all details on what features are supported by the softdevice in the Bluetooth qualification listing.

Why do you not want encryption?
