Oh. I think I got it. In the 52832 reference design the fist cap and coil are also there. I assume those are for the bandwidth filter?

Thank you, Kristin. Which of the proposed configuration (figure 12-16 in the white paper ) is actually implemented in the solar beacon? seems like there are more inductors that would be minimally needed by a PI network.

For how to tune an antenna used with the nRF52832, you can follow our generic antenna tuning whitepaper.

Yes, when doing the tuning, a VNA should be used. And yes, when connecting the device to the VNA, the inner leg should be connected to the ANT transmission line, right before the antenna matching network. The other leg should be connected ground.
