&lt;p&gt;It is fully possible to read/write to flash when you are in a BLE connection. There is no need to disconnect from the phone in order to read/write to flash.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I recommend to use either the &lt;a href="https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/com.nordic.infocenter.sdk5.v13.0.0/lib_fstorage.html?cp=4_0_0_3_36"&gt;fstorage&lt;/a&gt; or FDS(&lt;a href="https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.nordic.infocenter.sdk5.v12.2.0%2Flib_fds.html&amp;amp;cp=4_0_0_3_37"&gt;Flash Data Storage&lt;/a&gt;) module. These modules will schedule flash access in between radio events automatically, to avoid conflicts between the radio and the flash operations.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I have attached an example for SDK 12.2 that show you how to use FDS:&lt;/p&gt;
