Yes, HW flow control is used by the connectivity firmware. If you look at the HW schematics of nRF5x DK, you can se that there are 4 lines between the nRF5x chip and the interface MCU, CTS, RTS, TXD, and RXD.

My jlink has no uart support. so guess I need find a jlink ob to get work moving on. QUESTION: does is must be a Hardware flow control serial port? I see they are only two lines RXD,TXD.

nRF Connect will only work with a J-Link device. It is not enough that you have a USB-CDC device. The application will check the serial number of the J-Link that it is within a known range.

The virtual COM port of the DK is described here. As you can see on this block diagram, the communication between the interface MCU and the nRF5x chip on the DK is through UART. The correct model will then be:

nRF Connect --> USB --> J-Link OB --> UART --> nRF5x

You should flash the chip using nrf-connect-mesh-official-serial-gateway-fw.hex. Could you try to erase your board using nrfjprog?

I layout the board which use ch340 for USB-SERIAL. This chip is Similar to FT232,CP2103 etc. those uart port can't be used with nrf connect. but the jlink can do it. I guess jlink has a chip that usb set as USB-CDC class port.Which ch340 not,right?

nRF Connect can open the port "Jlink CDC UART Port(COM18)" on my PC, which means jlink SN is valid,right? And after connect there will a error happened. showing log:

nRF Connect will only work with J-Link devices, and it will check that the serial number of the debugger is genuine.

I got it. CH340 is customized definition USB-SERIAL chip. It's different with normal usb cdc class.

I made the board myself.CH340 chip is a USB-SERIAL bridge. And I want to know if nrf-connect only recognize "Jlink CDC UART Port" When my jlink insert on the PC, show as "JLink CDC UART Port(COMM18)",nRF Connect can select this port but it will get timeout error(NRF_ERROR_TIMEOUT). I search question zone find this kind question need to be answered.

Which board are you trying to run this on? USB-SERIAL CH340 is not what I would expect from any of the Nordic DK's. From this blog post, one of the requirements are: J-Link debugger (on-board nRF5 Development Kits and dongles). The COM ports from nRF5x DK and dongles should be something like: JLink CDC UART Port
