&lt;p&gt;I would recommend that you read and work through the &lt;a href="https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/tutorials/8"&gt;BLE Services&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;a href="https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/tutorials/17"&gt;BLE Characteristics&lt;/a&gt; tutorials found in the &lt;a href="https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/tutorials/"&gt;tutorials section&lt;/a&gt; here at DevZone. These give a great introduction and should get you started on understanding services and characteristics.&lt;/p&gt;
