After installing third party file managers (ZenUi File Manager or Total commander), I can select in the file select dialog an external file manager and the zip archives are selectable. DFU works fine.

Thanks for your investigations and information. Here my conclusions for the moment: The DFU Tool uses the built in file manger of the stock android 6.0.1. stock android file manager I do not (yet) know how to use an other file manager as system default. I will test the nrf Toolbox on an other phone, may be this helps. I will report tomorrow.

Could you try to copy to another folder ? If you go to Nordic Semiconductor\Board\PCA10028\ on your phone can you select the .zip file there ?

I'm using a Samsung S6 phone and using "File Manager" app when opening the file from nRFToolbox

I have renamed the the file to UIBoard.zip and duplicated to UIBoard.ZIP. The files are downloaded to the download folder from Google drive. My file manager "Ghost Commander" shows the file and can open it to show the 3 files. If I chose the distribution packaged (ZIP) format, In the file dialog of the nRF Toolbox all files in my download folder are still grayed out. On my android devices Google Nexus 7 I have stock android 6.0.1 and on the Oneplus 3T with OxygenOS almost stock. What flavour of Android do you use? Is there a problem with the file extension filter from the DFU tool?

I can select your file on my Android 6.0.1, Toolbox 2.2.1, could you try with other filemanager app ? Maybe try to not having more than one dot in your file name ?
