Hi Jørgen. It is still unclear if the "modified firmware for nRF52832 available here at DevZone" can be used at all on nRF52840. Please clarify.

This depends on the configuration of the BLE. nRF51 can sniff nRF52840 packets sent on the 1 Mbit PHY, but not on the new 2 Mbit and Coded PHY. See this answer for more details.

Hi! I have a nrf52840 central and nrf52840peripheral device communicating. I would like to find a suitable sniffer for checking the packet transfer between them. Do I have to get another nrf52840 to act a sniffer between these two? or will nrf51 can act as a sniffer between these two? Could you please suggest?

There is no connectivity firmware for the nRF52840 PDK that will work with the sniffer software. The official firmware will only run on nRF51x22 devices. There is a modified firmware for nRF52832 available here at DevZone, but that will not support any other features than the nRF51 version. The firmware and software will have to be modified to support the new S140 softdevice to support sniffing of packets with the new long-range and increased throughput modes of Bluetooth 5. I cannot comment on if, or when, this will be available. Such questions can be directed to your regional sales manager. No, the above mentioned thread answers my question only in part. I would like to know if the current packet sniffer software, which is designed for the nRF52822 development kit, will also work with the nRF52840 development kit. Also I would like to know, if this combination will fully support the new 5.0 modes or is there going to be a new version of the packet sniffer and when is this planned to happen.
