Finally! Downloaded the latest version of the command line from the location you gave me. Ran the NRFgo studio witch promptet me for an firmware upgrade, after this was performed it worked!

Are you running the latest version of the command line tools (with the support for nrf52840)? Can be downloaded here: www.nordicsemi.com/.../nRF52840

I am able to execute the --recover command with the nrfjprog as well, but if I try NRFgo studio I only get the same error message,

After downloading the nRF5x-OB-JLink-IF.bin file, and starting the bootloader I managed to get the interface MCU back up and running. Thanks.

Regarding the firmware version, on the "Getting started with the nRF52940 Preview Development Kit" site I found the following statement :

"Your nRF52840 Preview DK must be running firmware version 1.1.0 or later. Kits with hardware revision 1.1.0 or later, are shipped with this firmware. If step 5 below fails, click here to download version 1.1.0 firmware, and continue from step 7 to program the new firmware into your nRF52840 Preview DK."

I looked at the top of the interface MCU and found V0.9.0 and assumed this was the chip in question and attempted to upgrade it, with not so good results :)

My main issue what that I was not able to connect with the card from nRF Go studio. It says "No device etected, or readback protection might be set". This did not happen with ny nrf52832 DK kit.

I tried pressing the Recover button, and it says OK, but still the same error message. If I try pressing the enable reset pin button I get an error, "Could not enable reset pin"

The interface MCU firmware is not in the download page for nRF52840 PDK. You can use the ones on the nRF52 DK download page. This is an older version than the one shipped with the nRF52840 PDK and all features will not be functional, but if you try to program the device (for example using nrfjprog, nrfGo studio or an IDE like Keil) you will be prompted to update the firmware to the newest version.

Here is the section in the user guide that describes how to change the firmware.

I can't find where it says to upgrade to the 1.0.1 firmware on the getting started page. Do you mean 1.1.0. In this case this is the firmware running on the nRF52840 not on the interface chip (debugger/programmer chip).
