I am looking at SDK 10 now having first tried SDK12 before deciding to stay with 10.

I did execute an erase command using the Keil IDA seperately before attempting to program the chip.  Keil reports the erase being OK. &lt;p&gt;The proprietary RF examples (ESB and Gazell) does not require a softdevice. Only BLE and ANT examples requires a softdevice present on the board.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If you have flashed a softdevice to your board, you have to &lt;a href="http://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/com.nordic.infocenter.sdk5.v13.0.0/getting_started_examples.html?cp=4_0_0_1_2_0#gs_examples_erasing"&gt;erase the chip&lt;/a&gt; to get an example not running a softdevice to work. I prefer using the&lt;code&gt;eraseall&lt;/code&gt; command of &lt;a href="http://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/com.nordic.infocenter.tools/dita/tools/nrf5x_command_line_tools/nrf5x_nrfjprogexe_reference.html?cp=5_1_3_0"&gt;&lt;em&gt;nrfjprog&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/a&gt; to erase the chip.&lt;/p&gt;
