&lt;p&gt;The nRF5x series uses SWD interface for programming and debugging, not JTAG. Yes, your proposed header connections should be enough to program the nRF52.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;We generally recommend using &lt;a href="https://www.segger.com/jlink-debug-probes.html"&gt;Segger J-Link programmers&lt;/a&gt;. If you are looking for production programming, see this &lt;a href="https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/question/114769/trying-to-locate-an-ic-programmer-mfr/?answer=114855#post-id-114855"&gt;answer&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If you have nRF5x-DK, you can use the SEGGER J-Link OB that is on the DK to program your custom boards.
