I have to do the same thing - to update bootloader only by OTA. I am using SDK12.3, nRF52832. Any update to such a requirement?

@Gozard: You should generate .zip file, not .hex file. The script should be like this:

nrfutil.exe dfu genpkg fw_bootloader.zip --bootloader 001B_SDK11\examples\dfu\bootloader\pca10040\dual_bank_ble_s132\arm5_no_packs\_build\nrf52832_xxaa_s132.hex --application-version 0xffffffff --dev-revision 0xffff --dev-type 0xffff --sd-req 0xfffe

When you provide .zip file, the nRFToolbox won't ask for init data file.

I tried to change the device name (in bootloader) of device that is in a housing, disassembling it takes some time.

I tried with app_and_bootloader.zip (link above) package. I It doesnt work.

Yes, you are right. I repeated the test case and softdevice and bootloader cannot be updated. I would recommend you try creating a single zip file that contains both dfu and application.

Moreover, why would you like to have bootloader OTA. Usually it is the application that is supposed to be updated. You can always set the device in bootloader mode manually and update the application.

i tried all options, it doesnt work.

Here are the files: bootloader.zip app_and_bootloader.zip

I use SDK11. Updating only application over ota works fine.

One other solution that you can try is to generate a single file that includes dfu along with the application. This provision is available and can be enabled by choosing both --application and --bootloader in the genpkg command.

no it doesnt work. It also asks if i want to select the init data packet. Is the command for generating the file correct?

Extract the contents of zip file to obtain .bin and *.bat * files. Try updating using these files.
