&lt;p&gt;The softdevice blocks and restricts access to some hardware peripherals. You can see which peripherals are affected in the &lt;a href="http://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/com.nordic.infocenter.s130.sds/dita/softdevices/s130/sd_resource_reqs/hw_block_interrupt_vector.html?cp=3_7_2_0_6_0"&gt;softdevice documentation&lt;/a&gt;. As you can see, &lt;strong&gt;GPIO P0&lt;/strong&gt; is open, meaning you can use the GPIOs as you want when the softdevice is enabled.&lt;/p&gt;
