Great that you managed to debug after removing the trace option. The nRF51 does not support Trace, but the nRF52(Cortex-M4F) supports Trace, and to use Trace you will need a debugger with trace functionality(often expensive). You can read more about Trace in this blog post. For regular debugging purposeses you don't really need Trace, it's most useful for very big/serious program crashes as mentioned in the blog post.

nRF51 are ARM Cortex-M0 without RTT so only debugger but no tracing capability. There definitely should be way how to debug it over SWD only in Keil, unfortunately I don't use it so cannot help. I believe there is a blog post and pre-created Keil projects in all SDK examples...
