From the <a href="http://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/com.nordic.infocenter.nrf52/dita/nrf52/compatibility_matrix/ic_rev_comp_with_dev_hw.html?cp=2_0_1_3">development HW compatibility matrix</a>, you can see that the board contains Engineering A IC revision. The <a href="http://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/com.nordic.infocenter.nrf52/dita/nrf52/compatibility_matrix/ic_rev_sdk_sd_comp_matrix.html?cp=2_0_1_2">SDK and softdevice compatibility matrix</a> shows that Engineering A ICs only support softdevice S132 v1.0.0-3.alpha. To support Bluetooth 5 features, you need Engineering C or Revision 1 IC, which will support S132 v5.0.0-1.alpha softdevice.</p> <p>I would recommend that you upgrade your development kit to a PCA10040 (<a href="http://www.nordicsemi.com/eng/Products/Bluetooth-low-energy/nRF52-DK">nRF52 DK</a>), or even better; the new PCA10056 (<a href="http://www.nordicsemi.com/eng/Products/nRF52840-Preview-DK">nRF52840 Preview Development kit</a>) to get access to all Bluetooth 5 features.
