The S132 SoftDevice for the nRF52832 has grown in size from 0x1F000 for release 1.0.0-2.alpha, to 0x23000 for 5.0.0-3.alpha. It appears that the nRF52840 will start using a new S140 SoftDevice.

We will not change the size of a SoftDevice without changing the major revision. The production version of the S132 v5, and any potential minor updates to S132 v5, will keep the same size.

This includes features such as the connection oriented channels, object transfer protocol support, and the improved channel selection algorithm, planned for the production version of the S132 v5.

There might be a larger S132 v6 in the future, but it would be up to each customer to decide if the new features are worth the flash overhead. There is no need to update to the latest major version of the SoftDevice if you don't need the features it brings.

We don't publish road maps, no. It is very hard to predict the future, and we often have to make adjustments to the road map along the way, so we don't want to promise more than we can deliver ;)

Best regards
Torbjørn
