I only uses EK-board.
But I think I can answer your second question:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;For example, If you have brought EK-board from nordic,
They will give you a product key and create a nordic account (register), and go to below link.

&lt;p&gt;And select the &amp;quot;DOWNLOADS&amp;quot; frame
You will see some software (Toolchain, bluetooth protocol stack: S110, S120 etc.)
